About Leg A-Z Soccer

Leg-A-Z Soccer is north central Florida’s newest soccer program, formed to develop and promote the highest caliber, attractive youth soccer in the area. Leg-A-Z’s training system has been used to develop players for more than 15 years. Our system promotes creativity and tactical awareness in a structured environment which mimics the demand of the modern game. Technical director is Basil Benjamin, who has over 32 year of playing and coaching experience, and is licensed to coach all levels of players.

Leg-A-Z Soccer is a division of Leg-A-Z Sports Academy, and is an affiliate of the Florida Youth Soccer Association, USYSA, USSF and US Club Soccer. Leg A-Z is a member of the North Florida Youth Soccer League (NFYSL) and FYSA Region B league.

Location

Games are played primarily at Kanapaha Park, 7400 SW 41st Place, just off Tower Road in Gainesville. Practice locations are arranged at the discretion of the team coach. Most are conducted at Kanapaha Park.

Types of Organized Play

Youth Academy teams — for players age 5-12. These young players train with Leg-A-Z coaches and players year-round but do not play in any league games, competitive or recreational. Often, these teams compete in 3 v 3 tournaments, which provide small-sided games in a competitive environment.

Recreation teams

— for players age 5-10. Unlike many rec players who practice during a limited fall and spring season, these players train year-round with Leg-A-Z teams and coaches, but play games in Gainesville’s Youth Soccer (YSI) league.

Competitive teams

— Co-ed and female teams U10-U18. Leg-A-Z teams compete as premier teams in the North Florida Youth Soccer League, in Regions Cup and State Cup play, and in a select number of highly competitive youth soccer tournaments throughout the southeast U.S.

Playing Year

Players are expected to fulfill a one-year commitment to his or her team. The commitment begins Sept. 1 and ends in approximately mid-June, but seasonal play typically begins in mid August and ends about Memorial Day. Most teams practice at least 2 or 3 times a week and may play in 20-30 or more games per year. Many teams play in Labor Day tournaments, Memorial Day tournaments, and some play in tournaments over the Christmas holidays.

If a player leaves a team during the soccer year, no refund of team fees will be issued. Any remaining balance will be due before the player is released to play, dual roster, or guest play for another team.

A scholarship fund equivalent to the full cost of two player fees is established for each Leg-A-Z team. This fund is intended to help offset expenses if players need financial assistance; only in rare instances will Leg-A-Z award full scholarships. All players are expected to pay a portion of their fees to encourage greater dedication to their soccer development.

If a player needs to inquire about a scholarship, or make an adjustment to team fees or payment schedule, please contact club treasurer.

If You Don’t Like What You See…Volunteer!

There are many jobs involved with successfully running a youth soccer program – fundraising, website maintenance, providing sidelines drinks and water coolers, putting up and taking down field equipment, making travel arrangements, placing phone calls, scheduling fields, driving to away games, coordinating team social functions, etc. Each coach appoints a team manager, so please feel free to approach them with an offer to help out, or contact Leg A-Z directly.
